Chris Bledsoe is a businessman and devout Christian from Fayetteville, North Carolina who became one of the most significant and thoroughly investigated contact experiencers of the contemporary UAP era. Prior to his first encounter, he was a successful contractor running a family business. He has described himself as a deeply religious man whose experiences have both challenged and deepened his faith rather than undermining it.

Bledsoe came to the attention of UAP researchers — and subsequently the intelligence community — after a well-witnessed initial encounter in January 2007 along the Cape Fear River. His case has been investigated by MUFON, the CIA, researchers connected to the AATIP programme, and figures including Garry Nolan, who has studied the neurological profiles of contact experiencers. He published his memoir, UFO of God, in 2023.

The Cape Fear River Encounter — January 2007

On the night of 8 January 2007, Bledsoe — suffering from Crohn's disease and physically debilitated — went fishing with his son and three friends along the Cape Fear River. During the outing, he encountered glowing, orb-like objects hovering over the river. He separated from his companions and experienced a period of missing time. When he rejoined his group, he found that hours had passed, that his companions had been in a state of extreme anxiety searching for him, and that his Crohn's symptoms had dramatically and lastingly improved.

The initial encounter set off a continuing series of experiences — ongoing contact with orb-like entities that Bledsoe understands in a spiritual framework — that have persisted for nearly two decades. These experiences have allegedly been witnessed by his family members, neighbours, and a rotating cast of researchers who have stayed at his property specifically to observe the phenomena.

What distinguishes Bledsoe's case from many other experiencer accounts is the documented interest of official bodies. He has described being visited by CIA officers who conducted lengthy interviews. Researchers connected to the AATIP programme have acknowledged his case as among the most significant in their investigation of contact experiencers. Stanford immunologist Garry Nolan has studied Bledsoe and described his neurological profile as consistent with those of other individuals who report repeated contact — showing unusual activity in the basal ganglia region associated with heightened pattern recognition.

Bledsoe's case is also notable for the apparent physical healing associated with his initial encounter — a pattern that appears in other contact cases and has been tentatively documented by researchers including John Mack and Raymond Fowler.
