โš”๏ธ War & Military Conspiracies

A documentary archive of alleged and confirmed conspiracies surrounding warfare, military operations, false flag events, black programs, and wartime deception. War is historically among the most fertile ground for actual conspiracies โ€” governments routinely engage in covert operations, deception campaigns, and information suppression during conflict โ€” making careful source analysis essential to distinguishing confirmed from alleged operations.

I. False Flag Operations โ€” Confirmed & Alleged

Operation Gladio (1950sโ€“1990) โ€” NATO Stay-Behind Networks

Confirmed through Italian parliamentary investigations and Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti's 1990 public acknowledgment. Gladio was a NATO program to establish secret armed networks in Western European countries to resist Soviet occupation. In Italy, evidence emerged linking Gladio networks to the "Years of Lead" โ€” a period of political violence including bombings attributed to both far-left and far-right groups. The 1980 Bologna station bombing (85 dead) was linked by Italian courts to a far-right group with Gladio connections. The European Parliament passed a resolution in 1990 condemning "secret parallel intelligence and armed operations" and demanding investigation. The full extent of Gladio operations across 14 NATO countries has never been fully disclosed.

Gulf of Tonkin Incident (1964) โ€” Confirmed Deception

The Johnson administration presented a second alleged North Vietnamese naval attack on U.S. destroyers on August 4, 1964 as justification for the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which authorized escalation of the Vietnam War. Declassified NSA documents released in 2005 confirmed that NSA analysts knew the second attack did not occur at the time of the resolution, and that signals intelligence was selectively edited to support the administration's position. Robert McNamara later acknowledged doubts about the second attack in the documentary "The Fog of War" (2003). The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution provided legal authorization for a war that ultimately killed over 58,000 Americans and 2โ€“3 million Vietnamese.

USS Maine โ€” "Remember the Maine" (1898)

The explosion of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898 killed 266 American sailors and provided the proximate cause for the Spanish-American War. Subsequent naval investigations have attributed the explosion to an internal accident (spontaneous combustion of coal in proximity to the powder magazine) rather than a Spanish mine. The Hearst and Pulitzer newspaper chains had stoked American hostility toward Spain for months prior; "You furnish the pictures and I'll furnish the war" (attributed, possibly apocryphally, to Hearst) captured the era's proto-information operations. The case remains a touchstone for discussions of media-manufactured casus belli.

9/11 โ€” Conspiracy Theories

The September 11, 2001 attacks generated an extensive body of conspiracy theories, most claiming U.S. government advance knowledge, facilitation, or perpetration of the attacks. Key claims include controlled demolition of the Twin Towers and WTC 7, a missile (not aircraft) striking the Pentagon, and suppressed evidence of Saudi government complicity. The 9/11 Commission Report (2004) documented al-Qaeda responsibility; NIST engineering investigations addressed the building failures; the declassified "28 pages" and subsequent FBI investigations confirmed extensive Saudi government connections to the hijackers. The AUMF authorization request's framing โ€” "against those responsible" โ€” was interpreted by the Bush administration to cover Iraq despite no established 9/11 link.

II. Black Programs & Secret Weapons

Manhattan Project โ€” Precedent for Black Programs

The Manhattan Project (1942โ€“1946), costing $2 billion in 1940s dollars and employing over 130,000 people across dozens of sites, was successfully concealed from the public, the majority of Congress, and even the Vice President (Harry Truman did not learn of it until becoming President in April 1945). The project's secrecy demonstrates that large-scale government programs involving hundreds of thousands of people can be successfully concealed. This is frequently cited in both pro- and anti-conspiracy-theory arguments: it establishes that large conspiracies are possible, but it also required wartime conditions, extreme compartmentalization, and the absence of modern communications.

Area 51 โ€” From Secret to Declassified

Area 51 (officially the Nevada Test and Training Range near Groom Lake) was acknowledged publicly by the CIA in 2013 following a FOIA request by Jeffrey Richelson of the National Security Archive. Declassified documents confirmed it as the development site for the U-2 spy plane, the SR-71 Blackbird, and classified stealth aircraft programs. Throughout the 1950sโ€“1980s, UFO reports from the Nevada area were attributed to public sightings of experimental aircraft operating at altitudes and speeds not publicly known at the time. The CIA acknowledged that some UFO sighting reports were misidentifications of classified aircraft. This confirmed both that secret programs were real and that government denials were sometimes misdirection.

HAARP โ€” High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program

HAARP is a real ionospheric research facility in Alaska, jointly funded by the Air Force, Navy, DARPA, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. It studies the ionosphere using high-power radio frequency transmission. Conspiracy theories have attributed HAARP to weather control, earthquake triggering, mind control, and missile defense research. The facility's research is published in peer-reviewed literature; its actual capabilities โ€” heating small sections of the ionosphere for scientific study โ€” are vastly more modest than conspiracy claims. The Air Force transferred the facility to the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2015. The appeal of HAARP as a conspiracy focus reflects genuine public concern about classified weapons research combined with real information gaps about government capabilities.

Project 112 / SHAD โ€” Biological & Chemical Weapons Testing on U.S. Troops

Confirmed through Department of Defense disclosures beginning in 2002. Between 1962 and 1973, the Department of Defense conducted biological and chemical agent tests on U.S. military personnel as part of Project 112 and Project SHAD (Shipboard Hazard and Defense). Tests were conducted without adequate informed consent using live agents including VX nerve agent, Sarin, and biological simulants. Over 5,800 service members were exposed. The DoD declassified the program following pressure from veterans' advocacy groups; the VA established a registry for affected veterans. The program is confirmed by official government acknowledgment.

III. Psychological Warfare & Information Operations

Operation Mockingbird โ€” CIA & Media

The Church Committee (1975โ€“1976) confirmed that the CIA had recruited journalists, editors, and media executives as assets and that CIA-generated content had been placed in U.S. publications. CIA Director William Colby testified that the agency had assets in major U.S. news organizations. The "Mockingbird" name appears to have been applied retroactively; the original operation's name and full scope remain classified. The Church Committee's public record confirms the practice of covert media influence, but the extent, continuity, and current status of such programs is unknown.

Iraqi WMD Intelligence โ€” Manufactured Justification

The Iraq Survey Group (2004), Silberman-Robb Commission (2005), and Senate Intelligence Committee Phase II Report (2008) collectively documented that the intelligence used to justify the 2003 invasion of Iraq was flawed, that known uncertainties were not communicated to the public or Congress, and that some claims in Colin Powell's UN presentation were unsupported by the underlying intelligence. The Downing Street Memo (leaked British cabinet document, 2005) stated that "intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy." While debate continues about whether this constitutes a deliberate conspiracy or institutional failure, the result was a war causing an estimated 200,000+ Iraqi civilian deaths.

IV. War Crime Cover-Ups & Suppressed Atrocities

My Lai Massacre Cover-Up (1968โ€“1969)

On March 16, 1968, U.S. Army soldiers from Charlie Company killed between 347 and 504 unarmed South Vietnamese civilians at the hamlet of My Lai. The massacre was reported up the chain of command and suppressed for over a year. Army helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson Jr. and his crew intervened to halt the killing; Thompson filed a formal complaint that was ignored. Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh broke the story publicly in November 1969. The Army's initial investigation โ€” the Peers Commission โ€” confirmed the cover-up extended to senior officers. Only Lieutenant William Calley was convicted of murder; he served 3.5 years of a life sentence under house arrest after President Nixon commuted his confinement.

Unit 731 & Post-War Immunity Deals

Japan's Imperial Army Unit 731 conducted biological warfare research on human subjects โ€” primarily Chinese, Soviet, Korean, and Allied POW prisoners โ€” in Harbin, Manchuria from 1937โ€“1945. Experiments included live vivisection, pressure chamber testing, and deliberate infection with plague, cholera, typhoid, and other pathogens. Estimates of deaths range from 3,000 to 250,000. In 1945, American occupation authorities under General MacArthur granted immunity to Unit 731 leadership in exchange for research data. This agreement was classified for decades; documents were released starting in the 1990s. Unit 731 commander Shirล Ishii was never prosecuted.

War and military operations are among the areas where documented conspiracies are most common due to the inherently covert nature of military intelligence and special operations. This archive distinguishes between confirmed operations (documented through official investigations, declassified records, or judicial proceedings), credibly alleged operations (with significant evidentiary support), and unverified theories. All entries are drawn from publicly available primary sources, official investigations, or peer-reviewed historical research.
