Lord of the sea
Neptune governs the seas, rivers, and the seismic forces of the earth. Though Rome was primarily a land power, Neptune's importance grew significantly with Rome's Mediterranean expansion. He also held an ancient association with horses and freshwater sources, predating his identification with the sea.
