Lares

Guardian spirits of home and land

The Lares are among the most distinctly Roman divine beings โ€” guardian spirits protecting the household, the land, and the local community. Every Roman home had a lararium (household shrine) where daily offerings were made to the Lares Familiares. They were omnipresent in Roman religious life at every level from family to state.
