Personal divine spirit

The Genius is the divine spirit or generative force associated with each individual Roman man from birth to death. The Genius of the paterfamilias was the spiritual center of household religion. In the imperial period, the Genius of the Emperor became one of the most important objects of Roman religious devotion, bridging the human and divine.
