God of wine and ecstasy
Bacchus (also called Liber Pater in earlier Italic tradition) is the Roman god of wine, ecstasy, and theatrical liberation. The Bacchanalia mystery cult caused one of Rome's greatest religious crises in 186 BCE when the Senate suppressed it by decree, revealing the deep tension between ecstatic religion and Roman social order.
