Loki

Trickster and shapeshifter

Loki is the most complex figure in Norse mythology — neither fully god nor giant, neither purely evil nor reliably good. He is the engine of chaos that drives the mythic narrative. His clever schemes sometimes rescue the gods (recovering Mjölnir, building Asgard's walls) and sometimes doom them (the death of Baldr). At Ragnarök, he leads the forces of destruction.

Tricked the blind god Höðr into killing Baldr with a mistletoe dart — the most catastrophic act in Norse myth.
Helped giants and monsters but also recovered Thor's stolen Mjölnir and obtained Odin's spear Gungnir from dwarves.
Transformed into a mare and bore Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse, to distract a giant's horse.
After Baldr's death, he was bound beneath a mountain with a serpent dripping venom on his face — causing earthquakes.
Breaks free at Ragnarök and pilots the ship Naglfar, made of dead men's nails, against Asgard.

Loki is both enabler and destroyer — the necessary agent of change in a cosmic order that would otherwise stagnate.
His monstrous children (Fenrir, Jörmungandr, Hel) are the primary instruments of Ragnarök.
