Jörmungandr
The Midgard Serpent, encircler of the world
Jörmungandr is so vast that it encircles the entire world of Midgard and bites its own tail — an image echoing the ouroboros symbol of cyclical eternity. Thrown into the ocean by Odin at birth, Jörmungandr and Thor are eternal enemies. At Ragnarök, Jörmungandr releases its tail, rises from the ocean, and Thor kills it with Mjölnir — but Thor then takes nine steps and dies from the serpent's venom.
